Honda Indy Edmonton 2010

I volunteered to sell 50/50 tickets for 2 days of the race. Five communities around the City Centre Airport/racetrack have a deal with the City of Edmonton to sell the tickets and share the proceeds among the communities.  I live in one of those communities--Westwood.  Every year for the past 5 years that the Indy has been held here, we can hear the cars roaring around the track, we get the fly-by from the fighter jets and basically we feel that we are almost there. This year I decided to help out and actually be there.  It was hot the first day and hotter the 2nd.  This was the color of my face and neck by Saturday afternoon!!

Or maybe it was this color!
Here's my credentials/ID card--the one I needed a security check for!
I didn't actually take any pictures, because slogging up and down a hot tarmac in a red t-shirt and heavy 2-sided red apron wasn't really conducive to picture taking! But here's a wire service photo of the Edmonton skyline, the grandstands and the cars coming around the first curve.
The face of defeat--Helio Castroneves. He was in 1st place but on a controversial penalty call, ended up losing.  He was pretty upset before this picture was taken.
And the winner is...Scott Dixon!
1st, Scott Dixon, 2nd, Will Power (yes that's really his name!!), and 3rd, Dario Franchitti.
Next year, the outfit from Montreal takes over from Northlands to put on the Indy, so we will see what happens then.

Summer Time Duffy Pix

Although I have other topics to blog about, I thought it was time that I posted some photos of  The Duffster. He's been shedding like crazy over the last couple of weeks but he still looks pretty good--I think anyway!Nothing exciting just posing pictures.

Duffy's moth--I tied Duffy up because he would have eaten the moth, which I had already rescued from the garage and I thought it was too pretty to be eaten!

Geez, I'm bored--enough with the pictures!

One Smart Dog!

On July 6, when we took the residents on the riverboat cruise, I ended up being gone from the house from 9:30 until 5.  I thought I would get home sooner, but we had some delays with the wheelchair taxi cabs who didn't know they could come right down to the dock, then we had a brief meeting about a new brochure, and I had to pop in to see my dad for bit.  It was a very warm day and I had put 2 fans on in the house and left Duffy lots of water. This was the scene in the bedroom when I came home.

Duffy had pulled his bed right up to the fan--pretty smart, I'd say!!

A Riverboat Excursion!

Last Thursday Second Wind Dreams took 2 residents on a lunch cruise on the Edmonton Queen Riverboat. The original 2 ladies were both named Theresa but when the day arrived, one of them backed out and the other one almost did. But then she decided, "it wouldn't kill her--probably", so she was all set to go! Another resident Annie, was recruited and off we went.  We also took one of the nursing assistants, Lynda, who had helped the residents with writing up their dream.  She was a sweet girl and so good with the ladies and she was so excited to go on the riverboat that she had been up since 4 that morning!  We were all excited, none of us having ever been on that riverboat. I have been on the paddle wheeler at Heritage Park in Calgary and crossed both the South and North Saskatchewan Rivers on the ferries in Saskatchewan, but this was a real thrill.  The weather was beautiful, the cruise was full with other seniors from some assisted living facilities and a group of children.  The residents wanted hot dogs for lunch because they never have hot dogs at mealtime at the EG, so hot dogs it was! We all had a wonderful time and Annie and Theresa had the most special dream fulfilled--even if Annie didn't know she had this dream until now!!!

The SWD team: Doreen, myself, Lynda, and Kay in the back and Theresa, Annie, and Edith in front.

Going under the James McDonald Bridge
A motorboat showing off when he saw he had an audience.  Maybe he does this everyday? LOL
The river is fairly high this year thanks to all the rain in the foothills.
This pretty dragonfly sat right in front of me--look at the copper color in its wings!
Everyone enjoying the view.

Just to prove it was a paddle wheeler!

Happy Canada Day!

It's Canada's 143rd birthday! Having been around for the centennial in 1967, I've always wanted to see the bi-centennial birthday in 2067.  Some how I doubt that I'll be around though, because I would be 114! But it's a nice goal to strive for! LOL

It's a sunny day, not so warm though--it was only +8 overnight.  But a good day to mow the lawn, even though the neighbor says I shouldn't because it's a holiday! Well I think mowing the lawn is a good Canadian thing to do today!

Have a great day and a great weekend everyone!
